Peter Lim's RM10b project gets Iskandar nod

Read this heading in the papers a few days back. First thing that came to my mind is ' Are you kidding? His partner is none other than the Johor Royal Family, why wouldn't it be approved? '

Anyway, definitely good news for fellow investors in Johor but perhaps not so good news for the planned mid-valley JB mega-mall. Peter Lim is also building a mega-mall here and this is right after the causeway. Is Johor big enough for 2 mega-malls?

  1. Hi WK,

    Any opportunities here?
I've been reading your blog regarding the property investments in Iskandar. Very informative.

    Thankyou,
    Ben

  2. Thanks Ben. Article says there's apartment for sale too but no details. I also do not know which agency will they use. Need more research this. If they are selling them as freehold, it will give the southkey project some serious competition. This location is so much closer to Singapore and the JB city plus a planned mega mall.

  3. Hi WK,
I have this question that I'm trying to rationalise. Can you share your comment please. In the current economic condition with the US, China, Europe issues and Singapore experiencing downtrend in PMI and projected slow growth in the coming year, does it make sense to still invest in properties in this region right now. I'm thinking, if there's a good deal and strategic location, can still buy into it due to the huge sums of money pouring into Iskandar and the many projects in progress. Please share your thoughts

  4. Hi Ben,
I think it depends on your risk appetite. It still looks like the price will go further up in both zone A and B. I am only talking about capital gain as i have no clue nor feel about rental market at this moment. Everything seems to be really happening for iskandar now. If it is a reputable developer and good location, it think it is still worth exploring (ie. if you have a big war chest). Just make sure that you buy only from reputable developer. For me, 2 properties in iskandar is currently enough as my war chest is very limited and it met my investment objectives. One for pure investment and the other for short weekend stay (plus the added bonus of potential capital gain). I only continues to write the blog due to my interest in properties and investments.
